Gillian Burt, a 21-year-old from Toronto, Canada, has the volunteering bug! Gillian has participated in 3 different GVN volunteer programs, starting with Haiti. She also took part in a Be The Change program and most recently volunteered in Uganda in GVN's Organic Farming project.
Read on below to hear about Gillian's experience as a volunteer in Uganda:
"If you are looking for a place to volunteer in any area from HIV/AIDS support to education, Uganda is an unbeatable country. The work is challenging and satisfying on so many levels, and the people and cultural vitality is unparalleled. Jump in with both feet and an open mind, and you will fall in love with beautiful Uganda just as we did."
Perhaps the biggest difference that you will make is in you. Volunteering is a life-changing experience. It will provide you with a new outlook and lease on life. You will understand better than most people how you fit into the global family of humanity. Make no mistake about it, this is an experience that you won’t want to miss. Here's what a few of our recent volunteers have said:
"I had the most unbelievable experience. It was hard work but hugely rewarding and after 6 weeks I didn't want it to end. I met so many great people and learnt so much about the environment. By the end it felt like my home; an experience I will never forget and recommend to everyone."
We take care of just about everything. You get yourself there, pay the program package, and we'll take care of the rest.
