Vicky Mills writes...

...about her experience while volunteering in Romania.

Hi there again, well that's my first week down and I am well into the swing of things. The kids just adore me, its so funny, one of them is always waiting at the gate for me when I arrive in the morning and they love to touch me and play with my hair, its really sweet.

We've come into town today (Saturday) on our day off and its just lovely to know that we don't have to look after the girls today. As lovely as they are, they are really hard work. I usually end up doing the showering duties, as all of them can't shower themselves. It takes its toll at the end of it. But they are so lovely and they all have their quirky wee ways. One of them has taken a real shine to me - Adina, she's 25 and she's half the size of me, and she speaks really good English, so she sits next to me at lunchtimes and translates for me, which is a bonus. But its weird we have our main meal at lunchtime and then basically have peanut butter and toast for dinner. That's quite hard to get used to. Lunch yesterday is the best we've had - yummy pizza. I've told them I am vegetarian so they make me special wee pizzas, very cute. But the coffee is yuck, and the workers and I sit around after lunch and have a break, which involves a very bad cup of coffee, I'm going to have to take my own tea bags I think next week.

I took a couple of them to see the boys last week and that was great as it took up a good hour and its good for them to get out in the fresh air. The kids are spread out into 3 houses and they are a short distance apart. They all get really excited to go on walks, and I love to get out and about.
