New China Program: Rural Teaching Placements

In this program you will be based in the village of Jiuguan, teaching English to local kindergarten and primary school students. As with the urban program there is a strong need to learn English in order for the students to become successful. However, in this program most of the students you will be working with will be from poor farming families who cannot afford to send their children to better resourced city schools.
Because you will be living in a poor rural area there may be the opportunity to take part in wider community development activities as they arise. This is a new program and volunteers can potentially help to develop new initiatives. This program requires a 3 month minimum commitment.
