Due to the recent political unrest in Kenya we have been working with our partners on the ground and monitoring the situation very closely. The latest reports show the situation is improving. Life has returned to normal for the majority of Kenyans. Protest areas are calming and the large political rally which had been scheduled for early January in Nairobi was cancelled. Further, Kenya’s President, Mwai Kibaki, and the main opposition leader, Raila Odinga, agree that there should be an end to the violence. Former U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan has agreed to lead mediation to end the unrest linked to Kenya’s presidential election.
Our volunteers are all safe and have returned to work. Our efforts are now turning towards providing relief for Nairobi slum residents left homeless and destitute by the unrest.
We will keep you updated as new information comes to hand. - Colin, GVN CEO
