ASIA PACIFIC EMERGENCY APPEAL FOR DONATIONS AND VOLUNTEERS
Typhoons, earthquakes, and tsunamis have wrought death and destruction in the Asia Pacific region this week. Hundreds of lives have been lost, many are still missing, and hundreds of thousands of people have been affected.
In response, the GVN Team has launched an Asia Pacific Emergency appeal to assist three communities in desperate need who are
particularly dear to our hearts - our partner in the Philippines, our partner in Vietnam, and Samoa, the island neighbouring our headquarters here in New Zealand.
I urge you to please consider making a donation to one of our emergency appeals or volunteer and assist on the ground.
100% OF YOUR DONATION WILL GO DIRECTLY TO THE FUND.
PHILIPPINES DISASTER RELIEF FUND
Typhoon Ketsana has rampaged through the Philippines, killing over 330 people and forcing millions to flee their homes. Officials have reported that 2.3 million people had their homes flooded, and 400,000 were seeking help in relief centers.

The GVN Foundation is excited to announce that they have been granted Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). This means that the GVN Foundation is now officially recognized by the United Nations! We are growing up and making connections that will help us as we work to help the UN achieve their Millennium Development Goals. Courtney Montague, Executive Director of the GVN Foundation, hopes to go to the UN in the coming weeks to speak with their NGO Branch about ways GVN Foundation can assist the UN, and vice versa. Meanwhile, we are all celebrating!

I have just returned from Breckenridge, Colorado after co-leading another successful GVN ‘Be The Change’ Program with Courtney Montague and Nadine McNeil. We had nine incredible participants from around the globe and after spending an intensive week together I feel alive! Do you know what I mean when I say I feel alive? Something inside of me is energised, activated, full of life! It is an incredible feeling and I believe we feel this way when we are living our passion or following a dream or ‘on the right path’ as I have often heard it described.
And this is exactly what the Be The Change Program is all about - tapping into what it is that is alive in you and then equipping you with the skills and confidence you need to breathe life into that dream. Whether you want a job where you are living your passion, or if you want to start something new, the Be The Change program is the springboard that will help take you there.
Every five seconds a child dies because she or he is hungry, that’s the equivalent of forty five 747’s full of children crashing every day.
We have a way for you to help in the movement to end child poverty and hunger. All you need to do is join Eat So They Can and host a fundraising event. The event can be breakfast, lunch, or dinner; it can be a small gathering, an elaborate dinner, a party, a cocktail hour… whatever you choose!
Eat So They Can is co-sponsored by the Global Volunteer Network, and the GVN Foundation. This year, on October 17th-18th, hosts around the world will share a meal with friends and raise money to benefit the GVN Foundation’s African Children’s Fund: http://www.eatsotheycan.org/about/fund.php.
Raising $100 will buy 20 thick blankets.
Raising $250 will buy school books for 500 orphaned children.
Raising $500 will feed 30 orphans for 3 months.
