ASIA PACIFIC EMERGENCY APPEAL FOR DONATIONS AND VOLUNTEERS
Typhoons, earthquakes, and tsunamis have wrought death and destruction in the Asia Pacific region this week. Hundreds of lives have been lost, many are still missing, and hundreds of thousands of people have been affected.
In response, the GVN Team has launched an Asia Pacific Emergency appeal to assist three communities in desperate need who are
particularly dear to our hearts - our partner in the Philippines, our partner in Vietnam, and Samoa, the island neighbouring our headquarters here in New Zealand.
I urge you to please consider making a donation to one of our emergency appeals or volunteer and assist on the ground.
100% OF YOUR DONATION WILL GO DIRECTLY TO THE FUND.
PHILIPPINES DISASTER RELIEF FUND
Typhoon Ketsana has rampaged through the Philippines, killing over 330 people and forcing millions to flee their homes. Officials have reported that 2.3 million people had their homes flooded, and 400,000 were seeking help in relief centers.

The Center for Volunteerism in the Philippines (CERV-Philippines), a GVN local partner, now has a permanent mangrove nursery site.
After the devastation of Typhoon Frank last July, 10,000 mangrove trees planted by GVN volunteers three years previous to the disaster were destroyed. The new nursery is an attempt to bring the mangrove reforestation project back on track.
The 200 square meters property is located in Barangay (Village) Cabolutan in San Agustin, Romblon Province. The site is near the San Agustin Marine Sanctuary and Mangrove Reforestation site.
The fund used to buy the property came from the combined donations (through the GVN Foundation).

Our Philippines partner is developing a project with the Association for the Rights of Children in South East Asia (ARCSEA) and are in desperate need of volunteers who are experts in psychological counselling and rehabilitation. The ARCSEA works not only in advocacy but also directly with victims of Human Rights violations. The main issues they are confronted with are cases of child abuse and the effects of trauma from war.
If you are experienced in child psychology, trauma and victim support counselling and are considering a volunteer placement please contact GVN today at info@volunteer.org.nz.
