FAQ
We have compiled a list of frequently asked questions which we receive at the GVN inbox. This is a great place to start if you have questions about Global Volunteer Network and our placement process. This information should answer the majority of questions you may have.
Will I we be responsible for any excess under the Policy?
Yes; each and every claim lodged and recoverable under the Policy will attract an excess of US $500.
If I have chosen to pay the Full Cover program fee, do I automatically get insurance?
Is airfare covered in the event of a death or serious illness of a family member prior to departure?
Yes, subject to the terms and conditions of the policy. See Coverage Section 5 of the policy for more details.
Is there an age limit for insurance coverage?
The age limit for insurance coverage is 85 years for Sections 1-11. If the insured person is under 18 years of age, then the compensation paid for Insured Events 1 to 19 under Section 1 (Personal Accident and/or Sickness) will be 10% of the sum insured set out in the policy schedule unless otherwise specified.
Does insurance cover emergency medical evacuations?
Emergency medical evacuations are covered subject to the conditions in the policy details. You will be given a 24-hour call-free number to reach the Insurer in order to check on your eligibility for cover in case of an emergency. See Coverage Section 2 of the policy for more details.
Can my friend, who is not a volunteer, get travel insurance?
Unfortunately this insurance may only be purchased by GVN volunteers. This policy does not cover a volunteer's non-volunteering spouse or dependent child/children.
Do I need travel insurance?
As with any overseas traveling, insurance is recommended. For the China, Costa Rica, and South Dakota programs it is compulsory to have travel insurance which also includes medical or health insurance as part of the policy.
How do I extend my insurance if I've already paid my insurance fee?
If I decide to travel before or after my volunteer time, will I be covered by GVN insurance?
Yes, you may extend your insurance to cover other non-volunteering travel during the same trip. You will be covered for limited incidental personal travel either side of the volunteer booking.
If I decide to extend my volunteering stint once I arrive, can I also extend my insurance cover?
