Be The Change was a privilege that will forever impact on my life. Growing up I was often called 'weak' for caring about the needs of underprivileged people. Be The Change brought me to the realization that some people are just ill-informed. The people that once discouraged me are now some of my biggest supporters.

I suffered with my own mental health issues in my early twenties, in part due to taking drugs. It was only when I attended Be The Change that I reflected back on those years and realized I could channel that pain into a passion and help other people in similar situations. It was at Be The Change that my social enterprise MindFood was born.

FAQs

How will this week help me reach the next stage of my project/idea?

The 7-day Be the Change Conference is designed to be flexible and self-determined to allow participants to cater the program to their specific interests and goals. Each day we will have workshops that will provide you with specific skills that you can then directly apply to your project/idea or goal. Depending on location, we will venture into the local community to gain insight from entrepreneurs, community organizations and learn more about the culture in the region. By the end of the course you will have become friends with a diverse and interesting group of individuals from all over the world. Additionally, each day you will have time to discuss ideas and workshop your interests with Colin Salisbury, GVN's Founder and President. This program gives you one on one time with one of the top social entrepreneurs in the industry of international development.

Are we able to do any sightseeing during the program?

We offer our 7-day Be the Change Conference in beautiful locations around the world. During the Be the Change program we will visit sites around the area but there will not be time for individual travel. Many of our participants choose to arrive early or leave late so they may do their own traveling before or after the course.

Are there more expenses once I arrive?

The course fee covers accommodation, meals and transport costs while working. If you arrive early or intend to stay in the country beyond the course dates you will need to have additional money for this time. Other expenses not covered by your fees include: your flights, entry visa (if applicable), travel insurance, departure tax (if applicable), and any personal spending.

Tell me more about the accommodation?

You will be staying with other participants; the accommodation is modern and has most amenities people will be used to (TV, internet access, washing facilities etc.). Most accommodation is in retreat or conference centres. Bedding and 3 meals per day will be provided.

How many participants are there at the IC3 program at the same time?

The 7-day Be the Change Conference is limited to under 15 participants at any time to allow for maximum individual attention and productivity.

FACILITATORS

Colin Salisbury - Master in Development Studies, Victoria University, Wellington, NZ. Founder and President of Global Volunteer Network.

Colin Salisbury Colin - Colin’s passion for social change and redefining education probably comes from his background as an "underacheiver." Leaving high school with remarks on his reports cards such as, "Colin is best suited to practical subjects," Colin initially went on to do just that, until an opportunity to work with family in Papua New Guinea broadened his worldview and challenged him to assess his own potential.

Colin "the underachiever" Salisbury has a Master in International Development and he is the President and Founder of Global Volunteer Network (GVN), endorsed by both Bill Gates and CNN as an organization that serves as, "a first port of call for young people who want to make a difference in the world." To date, GVN has placed over 19,000 volunteers in 19 countries across Asia, Africa and Latin America with the goal of supporting and empowering local communities. Colin is also the Producer for ‘Undercover,’ an award winning humanitarian documentary (an official selection of the Pan African Film Festival 2013 and the Langston Hughes African American Film Festival in 2014) and will soon release ‘Stomp it Out,’ the story of a group of young adults from Soweto and their experience as musical artists who travel to China to perform for thousands of students. Courtney Montague

Courtney Montague Courtney is a graduate of American University of Paris and the NYU Wagner Graduate School of Public Service. Courtney began her career as a social entrepreneur when she accepted an internship in New Zealand working for the Global Volunteer Network (GVN). Identifying a need to support GVN projects with additional funding, she co-founded the Global Volunteer Network Foundation (GVNF) which has raised over USD$1 million dollars to help disadvantaged women and children around the world. Courtney raised thousands in additional funds by leading teams of volunteers on hiking expeditions to Machu Picchu, Kilimanjaro and Mount Everest Base Camp. Courtney and GVNF were recognized by the UN and she served as the GVNF representative to the United Nations' Economic and Social Council (UNECSOC). While at GVN, Courtney developed the precursor to IC3 Academy, GVNF's ‘Be the Change' program – seven day workshops held around the world for social entrepreneurs to learn how to affect social change.

Following graduate school, Courtney gained experience in the digital media field before partnering with her sister to start Nikita & Vesper, an online socially responsible marketplace based on the belief that women should have the ability to visit one online source that delivers ethically produced gorgeous clothing and accessories.

When Courtney isn't running operations for Nikita & Vesper she manages Kelsey Montague Art, most recently made famous when Taylor Swift posed in front of the large #whatliftsyou interactive mural in downtown New York City. Courtney's passion for supporting women social entrepreneurs is evidenced in her newest project, Access Circles II. Access Circles is a by invitation global network designed to enrich the health and wellness, financial expertise and life balance of women. The Access Circles II initiative seeks to specifically provide community, mentorship and networking opportunities to outstanding, female social entrepreneurs.

Courtney brings her social media, start-up and local to international market expertise to IC3 Academy when she consults and teaches at the IC3 Academy courses.
